Belated First Blogoversary/101st Post Hybrid Contest

It's about time for a contest... I've finally made it to the LYS to pick up some prizes.
Dusty wouldn't let a contest go on without his help. As soon as I took the camera out and he saw the prizes on the chair he just HAD to start a stream of poses. Here is his "surprised" face when I asked him if he minded if I took a few more pics
He thought a profile pic was in order.
Here's a closer look at the Wool Bam Boo prize. I know there are wool fumes, but are there Wool Bam Boo fumes too? He looks like he's under the influence...

I have a fun first year blogging. I experienced many swaps, made many friendships and connections with people through this blog, and I would like to know a bit more about you, the reader. It may also inspire some more projects to go on my Rav Queue (To-Do list) also, not like it's not full enough already!

Prizes: Two winners! One will win a skein of Classic Elite's Wool Bam Boo, and the other will get a skein of Nashua Handknit's Creative Focus brushed Alpaca.

Ways to Enter:
Leave a comment on my blog telling me about your favorite knitting (or sewing) project. Feel free to link blog posts or send me to your Rav notebook.

Extra entries: Post about my contest on your blog
Even more entries: If someone else mentions that you sent them, you both get an extra entry!

Deadline: Friday July 11th at midnight (EST)

First SP12 Package Arrived! Also, SP12 Question #3

I must say, I've had a good week with the mailman! (Despite our previous history, he is redeeming himself.)
I got my first package from my SP12 Spoiler! She sent me two skeins of Elegance (KnitPicks) in a lovely blue. I'll have to look on Rav and see what others have made with it! The box was filled to the brim with beads in their own storage cases for making stitch markers, beautiful stitch markers (made by my pal. I didn't post the photo here because the photo doesn't do them justice), some Dove chocolate (my favorite!) and Swedish fish (another favorite)! Also I got a lovely card with a clever poem inside. It is really making me wonder just who this spoiler is! Thanks go out to my SP12 for a great package, can't wait to get to know you!

Closer look at the KnitPicks Elegance.
Question of the Week #3 (for SP12)What would you consider the perfect amount of stash?
I would say that the perfect amount of stash would be enough to make almost anything that I would want to knit. I said almost because it would be impossible to have enough of a stash that I would have everything. Half of the fun of a new project can be shopping and comparing fiber and trying something new. It would be perfect to have enough stash where I'd have the yarn on hand to just cast right on, with no waiting!

Here's a view of some CoolSpun that I just picked up last week when I dropped by my LYS.
I am starting to work more with this cotton than P&C. It won't necessarily replace the P&C in my stash because I do like some of the color combo's available in P&C and S&C, but it will be good competition!
I had originally stopped in to pick up my Stitch 'N Pitch tickets to go to a Worcester Tornado's game this Sunday with Moriah but of course I ended up buying stuff also. (Including prizes for my contest, keep your eyes out for my next post!) I bought a few more things, I'll post them soon!

WIP: I casted on for a Baby Genius Burp Cloth with some more CoolSpun Cotton.
I also casted on my second Mom's Mitt. This project has been lingering for far too long!

Make It Through the Day Package Arrived!!!

It was from Dianne (a.k.a. Britknitter on Rav). Not only was I spoiled, but Dusty, Daizzy and Dee were spoiled as well! After opening the lid of the box I could see that there was something for myself and Dusty along with a TON of other packages.
Once I started I could not stop tearing open all of the packages! It was packed with all kinds of awesome surprises. For the handmade portion of the swap, Dianne made me a bowl for my desk with her own handspun! It's beautiful. I can't wait to use it. (Still contemplating moving into my desk when I know I'm moving into my new lab August 1st) I also had two skeins of Malabrigo, a cute mug, a stuffed pony (sitting on the Malabrigo below), a few more ponies with one that whinny's, trail mix, fun note pads, handy mini-sharpies, craisins, a beautiful pen, and super fun paperclips. Dusty received some kitty treats, Daizzy got a package of her favorite flavor (peanut butter) treats, and Dee got some sugar cubes. (I still haven't had a chance to take a pic of Dee, I will try to do that soon I promise!)
Here's a closer look at the MmmmmmMalabrigo in Citrus. YUM!
Dusty was so excited to get some treats. He's never gotten anything in a swap before! (not the most flattering shot, he was eating)
He is such a ham. As soon as he was done nibbling he posed for further photos.
Daizzy LOVED her peanut butter treats too! She confirmed that I can do as many swaps as I want from now on.
Thanks again Dianne, you spoiled all of us!
We loved everything, you did an awesome job!

Also, PIF gifts were sent last week. Everyone should have received/will be receiving their gifts shortly. I may post photo's of them once everyone has gotten theirs.
Also, My downstream Make It Through The Day Swap partner, The Knitting Wildflower, is holding a Blogoversary Contest. Stop on by!

SP12 Question of the week #1 and #2, Bib, and Summer Knitting Goals

A bit behind on this question thing...
#1 What is your favorite summertime drink?? Non alcoholic would have to be iced coffee in the morning and iced tea during the day. Alcoholic would have to be a frozen margarita. Mmmmm

#2 As a kid, what did you look forward to most about summer vacation/break/holiday? I always looked forward to having all the time I wanted with whatever I wanted to do it in. I spent tons of time in the pool, reading, and goofing off with my horse.

Summer Knitting Goals: Found this on Skeins Her Way and thought it was a good idea. Hope I'm not being too ambitious ;) (Like the idea? Stop by her blog and enter her contest too! EDIT: Looks like the contest ended, but here's for hoping she extends the deadline. Either way I think this is a great idea to get some knitting mojo flowing OTN!)

1. Complete a burp cloth to gift with Bib I made last week.
2. Complete a square for something *top secret* (I will reveal later!)
3. Complete another baby gift set (College Roommate due in Fall).
4. Washcloth (or 2) for a Swap (Summer of Yarn, or also SP12 too if I have time).
5. Start my first shawl. (Notice the key word, start) (Forest Canopy Shawl, Simple Lace Shawl).

6. Work on some more projects that have been OTN far too long.

Recently Off the Needles: I casted on for a Bib 'O Love on Friday morning last week while I was sitting on the sidewalk waiting for Kenny on the Today Show. I casted off in the car ride home. Super quick knit. Need to weave ends and find a button. Will post photos ASAP. Planning on more Bib's or also Burp Cloths from Mason Dixon book. Too many babies are coming... and soon.

Darcy over at Darcy's Knotty Knitter is holding a 200th post Blog Party contest. She's got a ton of awesome prizes. Stop on by and don't forget to mention who sent you!

Also, those of you waiting for my Blogoversary contest... it IS coming! I had to wait until I had the chance to get to the YS for a prize! I think it's going to be turning into a hybrid Blogoversary/100th post contest. Stay Tuned!

NYC, Luscious yarn and a New iMac

Guess where I was on Friday...
Peek a boo...
Yep, stalking Kenny Chesney at his Today Show appearance. It was awesome and so worth taking the 12:19am train, not sleeping, and sitting on the sidewalk until the show!
Here's another shot of him getting interviewed by the co-hosts.
(Few more shots on my Flickr)Can't wait for my downstream partner to get her Make It Through the Day swap package. I bought some luscious yarn from GeorgeAnne of ZonaBlueDesigns for my downstream Multitasking partner, and couldn't resist picking up a skein for myself.
The skein I kept for myself is fingering weight and called Sweetheart. The skein I sent out is fingering weight sock yarn called Desert Moon. Lovely colors! (my photos are not the best for true color, check out her webpage) I'm sure I'll be buying from GeorgeAnne again soon!
Swap Update: Summer of Yarn Love Swap has begun! As also SP12 (just got my match, hey there to my sp's!)
Just got in my new work computer, an iMac. I can't wait for the IT people to come and set it up (god forbid I know how to do something else besides science like install software) so I can play on it. I must say, I like this new job ;)
Good thing I took Friday off, otherwise I don't know if I could sit there looking at the box any longer!

SP12 Questionnaire

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like? I would have to say my love right now is Malabrigo, but I also really enjoy mohair and other yarns. I like soft yarn and I like wooly yarn. It depends what I'm making. I do not like 100% acrylic yarn, but I have no problem with a mixture of acrylic. I do not like fun fur or eyelash yarn. I'm always open to trying someone else's favorite.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in? Knitpicks Options in their own binder/pockets. Straight needles in a roll. (Gifted from Christmas swap)

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced? I have been knitting for about 3 years. I guess I am somewhere in intermediate. I have done some work with increases/decreases, K2TOG, some cables, and YO's. I always like when I pick a new pattern and it has a few new skills for me to pick up along the way. Thinking about socks or a sweater sometime soon.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list? Yes, amazon. (see sidebar)

5. What's your favorite scent? I LOVE lavender. It's sooo relaxing. I also love the smell of fresh roses. I also like "clean" scents.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy? Yes. I like most sweets. Including snickers, dove chocolate, swedish fish, gummi bears etc. I dislike really dark chocolate (over 70%)

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin? I do not spin. I love making stitch markers. I have also started doing some small sewing projects. I don't mind sewing by hand but I feel that if I buy myself a little machine I'll be sewing a LOT more. I have a lot of ideas. (tote bags, needle organizers, etc.)

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD) I have a love for most music. I love country, top 20, jazz (esp. miles davis), most everything except really heavy metal. I can listen to MP3's in my car.

9. What's your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can't stand? I love yellow and blue. I'm also a pink fan. I have something against purple. I still end up wearing it a lot and sometimes I find myself persuaded to use it or buy clothes that are purple.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets? I am currently living at home (see last years response) I have a percheron/thoroughbred horse named Dee. She lives 10 minutes away. I will be moving to a new house/barn sometime in the fall, but in the same area, and Dee will live with me then. I also live with my smooth Collie Daizzy, and my/my parents cat Dusty. (This makes me realize Dee needs a picture up here, and Daizzy needs some more flattering ones! Dusty already has his bases covered)

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos? I wear scarves and mittens ALL the time in winter. I wear baseball hats a lot and wool hats or headbands in the winter. I don't have a poncho, but I have considered making myself one.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit? I made one hat, (amanda hat), and really enjoyed it. I also made a wrap (Wisp) and plan to make a shawl. (Although this one ended up being smaller and more like a scarf.) I have enjoyed making mittens, washcloths, and scarves so far... Thinking about socks or a sweater sometime soon. I have a few bags on my to-do list. I don't have too many projects so I don't feel like I have a "favorite" yet. I really loved making my Wisp. It was my first lace project and I loved the mohair. Even though it was simple, I still enjoyed making it. Liked it so much I have some Knitpicks Alpaca Cloud to make another one. At this point, if I'm willing to make something again, I'd call it a favorite.

13. What are you knitting right now? Currently trying to knock out the high amount of almost finished WIP's I have hanging around. I keep starting new projects in between finishing the old WIP's. Currently I'm tackling my airy scarf. Last week I finished an eye pillow. Want to finish my mom's mitts soon also. Thinking about casting on a washcloth or baby item in between.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts? YES!

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic? I think each type has it's place. I have a fair amount of bamboo straights in my collection and lately I have been adding both aluminum and plastic circulars to my collection. I am preferring circular over straight these days when I have the option. (Knitpicks options and random others)

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift? Looking to buy a winder ASAP. Can't handle winding by hand anymore! (Also I am really OCD about yarn balls and love center pull balls.) I imagine once I have a winder I'll naturally put a swift on my want list.

17. How old is your oldest UFO? Clogs (OCS... one clog syndrome)

18. What is your favorite holiday? It would have to be Christmas. I love finding/making just the right gift for someone.

19. Is there anything that you collect? Yes, I have a fair amount of books ranging from horseback riding/instruction to cooking/baking to animal rights to various "fun" novels and of course Knitting books. I collect Miles Davis books and music. (I became obsessed with him and Jazz when I played flute and trumpet and sang during high school.) I also collect the little shell "animals" that touristy shops sell everywhere. I have probably 6 different animals from my travels. It's sort of an "incidental" collection, I can't stop myself from buying them when I see new animals. I also have a collection of Painted Ponies.

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have? Thanks to Ravelry, my books are mostly posted there. I think a few are missing because they haven't been posted on Rav yet. I am trying to decide which magazine to get. I keep swapping between Knit.1 and Knitscene. As far as patterns that I would like, they are in my sidebar (along with the free patterns that I want to knit.) I noted if I have them or need them.

21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn? Off the top of my head: Learning long tail cast on's, magic loop (understand it, have the book, but want to apply it to a project such as socks), try toe up socks, maybe try two at a time socks.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements? Not yet, (see #21). In general I am a size 8. Will post measurements soon. (I know I said I'd do it earlier, I will, promise!)

23. When is your birthday? June 3rd

24. Are you on Ravelry? If so, what's your ID? Ponyknit

Dear Blog,

Happy first Blogoversary! I hope you enjoy your virtual cupcake!
You've been here starting with my first post through the 95 thereafter. You have stuck around through my many ups and downs ranging from moving, to yarn acquisitions, to multiple swaps, and to the giving of knitted gifts. You have helped me to form great friendships, to participate in swaps (11+ completed so far), and you have given me a place to discuss any knitting triumphs (or nonknitting triumps) or tribulations or anything else that needs some airing.
Any messages for your readers? Oh right, we couldn't let our first Blogoversary pass without a contest of some sort. Stay tuned, contest details coming very soon!

Thanks for everything so far Blog, can't wait for year two!
Love,
~Ponyknit

P.S. Check out my super cute blogoversary counter, you can get one too!
